{"id":253753,"date":"2026-05-01T10:52:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T10:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/253753\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T10:52:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T10:52:10","slug":"popular-food-truck-still-brings-the-flavor-of-philly-to-cape-coral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/253753\/","title":{"rendered":"Popular food truck still brings the flavor of Philly to Cape Coral"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gabby Ferraro knows cheesesteaks.<\/p>\n<p>After all, she\u2019s been serving the Philly staple from her popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.com\/news\/longtime-cape-coral-restaurant-closes-090229385.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:food truck;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">food truck<\/a> since December 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe average 575 (in 12 hours a week), give or take,\u201d the co-owner of Double Dee\u2019s Munchies said. \u201cOn good days, it\u2019s about 180 to 200 in three hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Multiply that times 52 weeks, and you have about 30,000 orders a year, placed by new and returning customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI recognize about 75 to 85 percent of the customers now,\u201d Gabby said on a recent Thursday afternoon in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aol.com\/news\/2-fast-casual-restaurants-open-090445005.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Cape Coral;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Cape Coral<\/a>. \u201cI know all their orders. I don\u2019t know names well, but I remember orders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Always taking the time to offer suggestions (like the new hot honey chicken sandwich) and chat all things Philly, Gabby quickly became a friendly and familiar face in a community that appreciated her as much as she did them.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s why she had a hard time telling everyone she was leaving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to cry,\u201d she said a week before her final shift on May 1 (from 4-7 p.m. or sellout at Family Hardware in Cape Coral). \u201cI really appreciate all the people who love our cheesesteak so much. Even on rainy days, even in the heat of summer, they\u2019re standing here, waiting in line. I\u2019ll miss the connection with this community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Double Dee's Munchies is easy to spot. Just look for a line of customers and a Philadelphia sports team flag proudly displayed.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s heading back to her alma mater, Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, where she earned an undergraduate law degree. It\u2019s about 30 minutes south of Philadelphia, and if all goes according to plan, it\u2019s where she will get her MBA.<\/p>\n<p>Jobwise, in the meantime, will \u201ctake me wherever the wind goes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI totally winged this decision,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s more of a why not go. My boyfriend asked if I wanted to move back, and I said, \u2018Sure.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From Cape Coral beer garden to Double Dee&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p>Gabby\u2019s last decade or so in Florida followed a similar path.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy uncle decided to open a beer garden and asked if I could help run it,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve worked and lived with him on and off for the last 17 years. We\u2019ve done a lot together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Gabby Ferraro and her uncle Gabe Ferraro serve some of the best cheesesteaks around from their Double Dee's Munchies food truck.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1242\" height=\"1441\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/cf7cff8b572375f98e3ad8bcef649ed4.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Gabby Ferraro and her uncle Gabe Ferraro serve some of the best cheesesteaks around from their Double Dee&#8217;s Munchies food truck.<\/p>\n<p>Her uncle is Gabe Ferraro, and his restaurant was Backyard Beer Garden in South Cape, which took over Two Amigos\u2019 space and is now occupied by Stones Throw.<\/p>\n<p>Gabe also knows cheesesteaks.<\/p>\n<p>Which is why Gabby says all those loyal customers need not worry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing else is changing (at Double Dee\u2019s),\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Gabe has been the one behind the scenes and working the grill when all of those orders\u00a0come through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been cooking cheesesteaks since I was 16,\u201d the Philly native said.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Gabe Ferraro and his niece Gabby Ferraro opened Double Dee's Munchies food truck in late 2020.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1242\" height=\"1656\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/33fc6773bf515cbde90e4a55095ba101.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Gabe Ferraro and his niece Gabby Ferraro opened Double Dee&#8217;s Munchies food truck in late 2020.<\/p>\n<p>He spent decades opening 200-plus restaurants with a longtime partner before their beer garden debuted in late 2018.<\/p>\n<p>It took off quickly and built quite the following until it \u201cwas lost to COVID.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after, Gabby and Gabe started Double Dee\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt took only a month, then people realized these are the same cheesesteaks we served at the bar,\u201d Gabe said.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been busy ever since.<\/p>\n<p>Double Dee&#8217;s brings the taste of Philly to Cape<img alt=\"Double Dee's Munchie is parked in front of Family Hardware on SE 47th Terrace in Cape Coral three days a week.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1242\" height=\"932\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"standard-img w-full w-full h-auto\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/d5935e65905f8d77ccbf085348a72da3.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Double Dee&#8217;s Munchie is parked in front of Family Hardware on SE 47th Terrace in Cape Coral three days a week.<\/p>\n<p>Double Dee\u2019s ships in most everything \u2014 rolls (better than Amoroso\u2019s, according to Gabby), meats, hot cherry peppers included \u2014 from Philly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were the first to bring in Cooper sharp and seeded rolls here nine years ago,\u201d Gabe said.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve been ordering our cheesesteaks with that creamy, dreamy, melty Cooper sharp white ever since Gabby recommended it three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Customizable cheesesteaks come with beef or chicken, choice of cheese \u2015 Whiz, American, provolone, Cooper sharp or Dee\u2019s sauce (another big hit brought from Backyard Beer Garden), and additional toppings of fried onions, mushrooms and sweet or hot peppers.<\/p>\n<p>Specialty cheesesteaks include the best-selling Buffalo chicken, barbecue chicken, veggie and hot honey chicken. Philly Philly tacos, and tots and fries (available in cheesesteak, Buffalo chicken, barbecue chicken or veggie ) round out the menu.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll find Double Dee\u2019s a few days a week at Family Hardware on SE 47th\u00a0Terrace in Cape Coral, where it\u2019s \u201cbeen from the jump.\u201d It also makes regular stops at Gulf Coast Medical Center.<\/p>\n<p>While we \u2014 and so many others \u2014 will miss Gabby, we\u2019re not worried.<\/p>\n<p>After all, we still have Gabe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything is exactly the same,\u201d Gabby said. \u201cSome of you just need to remember your orders now.
