The wet weather is expected to move through Northeast Florida and South Georgia, with the heaviest rainfall likely Friday through Saturday.

Most of the rain today is focused in Georgia, especially around Brantley County, but it’s coming our way.

That’s great news if you’ve been hoping for relief from drought conditions, and I know a lot of us have.

You can expect totals between 1 and 3 inches, especially in areas where those locally heavy thunderstorms pop up.

Rain chances will go from about 30% today up to 80% by Saturday. After the weekend, we should see rain chances drop as drier air works in from the north.

Today’s conditions and fire risk

This morning, rain has mostly stayed north of the coast, leaving Jacksonville and the beaches clear for now. It won’t stay that way for long.

Wind gusts, running from about 11 to 18 mph in some spots, are something I’m watching closely. Not just for how they move storms, but because they drive those wildfires we’ve all been worried about.

Smoke from these fires can be tough on anyone with heart or lung issues, so it’s always worth checking the latest updates.

Cooler temps ahead after the rain

Today’s high is expected to reach 85 degrees, so we’re starting above average—but cooler air is likely right behind the rain. Weekend highs could dip to about 81 degrees on Saturday, then even cooler with temperatures in the 70s on Sunday.

By Monday and Tuesday, we dry out and start to warm up again, heading back into the 80s with plenty of sunshine in the forecast.

Your weekend at a glance

Saturday brings the best chance for widespread rain, so if you need to walk the dog or plan outdoor time, try to grab a window early in the day or be ready with that umbrella!

Looking past the weekend, we’ll ease back into a sunnier, drier pattern—but keep watching The Weather Authority for any updates in case forecast details shift.

We want to see your weather photos!

Been waiting for that first big rainfall?
