{"id":254034,"date":"2026-05-01T14:55:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T14:55:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/254034\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T14:55:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T14:55:07","slug":"naacp-suing-city-of-tallahassee-over-transfer-of-tallahassee-memorial-healthcare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/254034\/","title":{"rendered":"NAACP suing City of Tallahassee over transfer of Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DOWNTOWN TALLAHASSEE, FL \u2014 NAACP Tallahassee has filed a lawsuit against the City of Tallahassee over the recent sale of Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, attorney Jack McLean confirmed to ABC 27 Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Per McLean, the lawsuit was filed Thursday night with the Leon County Clerk of Courts.<\/p>\n<p>McLean said they are suing on the grounds of Section 155-40. They&#8217;re arguing the City did not follow the proper procedures to sell the hospital, adding that the City did not include protections for the underinsured and uninsured.<\/p>\n<p>ABC 27 has reached out to the City of Tallahassee for comment on the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>This comes as the City recently approved the transfer of the hospital from the City to Florida State University in a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wtxl.com\/downtown-tallahassee\/breaking-city-of-tallahassee-authorizes-sale-of-tallahassee-memorial-healthcare-to-florida-state-in-3-2-vote\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">3-2 vote<\/a>.
