Each May, the nation recognizes Older Americans Month, a time to honor older adults\u2019 contributions, highlight the value they bring to our communities, and promote resources that support healthy aging. This year\u2019s national theme, \u201cChampion Your Health,\u201d encourages older adults to prioritize well\u2011being through social connection, preventive care, and access to supportive services.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida will join the celebration by hosting a community\u00a0Older Americans Month Open House\u00a0Wednesday, May 6,, at its Fort Myers headquarters. The event will take place in two drop\u2011in sessions,\u00a010 a.m. to noon and\u00a02 to 4 p.m., in the AAASWFL Main Conference Room, at 2830 Winkler Ave., Suite 112, Fort Myers. Attendees are welcome to join at any time during either session.<\/p>\n
The open house invites older adults, caregivers, community partners and local residents to learn about the wide range of programs and services available throughout the seven counties AAASWFL serves in Southwest Florida. Attendees will be able to:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Explore supportive services that promote independence and aging in place<\/p>\n
\u2022 Learn about caregiver resources and respite support<\/p>\n
\u2022 Connect with AAASWFL staff and community partners<\/p>\n
\u2022 Celebrate the strength, resilience and contributions of older adults in our region.<\/p>\n
\u201cOlder Americans Month is an opportunity to uplift the older adults who enrich our communities every day,\u201d said Sarah Gualco, director of Programs and Planning. \u201cWe are proud to open our doors, share resources and help individuals and families access the support they need to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Administration for Community Living, which leads the national OAM observance, emphasizes that championing health includes staying engaged, building supportive relationships and accessing services that empower older adults to live well. AAASWFL\u2019s open house aligns with this mission by offering direct pathways to information, assistance, and community connection.<\/p>\n
