Puntriano had been traveling with her two daughters and was attempting to return home to Tennessee after undergoing surgery. Instead, she found herself scrambling for answers after receiving a message early Saturday informing her that Spirit Airlines had ceased operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s frustrating, especially that I\u2019m sick\u2026 I counted on them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Kendra Dixon, traveling with a group of nearly 10 family members, said the experience was overwhelming.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been airline to airline\u2014they don\u2019t have space,\u201d Puntriano said. \u201cThey are telling us they\u2019re going to give us a discount, but when you get there, there\u2019s no discount.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said she was quoted nearly $1,000 just to get her family home\u2014far more than she could afford.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s too much. I cannot afford it \u2026 that\u2019s why I did all my accommodations before,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this economy, I know it\u2019s clich\u00e9 to say, but it\u2019s true\u2014the tickets are just unaffordable,\u201d Dixon said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpirit meant a lot of things to a lot of people\u2026 dang, farewell, Spirit,\u201d Dixon said.<\/p>\n
