SPOKANE, Wash. \u2014 Spokane police arrested a 74-year-old man Saturday after he allegedly made multiple telephone threats against a Florida retirement community and former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.<\/p>\n
Robert Martindale was booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of threats to bomb or injure property, a Class B felony.<\/p>\n
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in Florida contacted Spokane police around 10:40 a.m. Saturday regarding threatening phone calls made to “The Villages” retirement community and Mar-a-Lago. Florida authorities traced the calls to Martindale’s phone number.<\/p>\n
Both the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and federal Secret Service agents requested Spokane police contact Martindale. Police said he was allegedly upset about Trump’s recent visit to “The Villages.”<\/p>\n
When officers contacted Martindale, he admitted to calling “The Villages” multiple times. According to police, Martindale told officers his communications were “not a threat, but a warning.”<\/p>\n
Officers confirmed Martindale’s phone number matched the number used to make the threatening calls. Martindale remains in custody at Spokane County Jail.<\/p>\n
