MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 If you see smoke rising Friday at the Palm Beach <\/a>and Martin County<\/a> line, there\u2019s no need to be alarmed, this is one fire that\u2019s planned.<\/p>\n

The South Florida Water Management District <\/a>is carrying out a prescribed burn of up to 225 acres in Martin County on Friday, as part of routine land management operations.<\/p>\n

The burn will take place in the Loxahatchee River\/Cypress Creek Management Area along the east side of the I-95 and Florida\u2019s Turnpike corridor, according to the release. The site is located about two miles north of Exit 116 on Florida\u2019s Turnpike and Exits 87A and 87B on I-95 for State Road 706, also known as Indiantown Road, in Jupiter. The area is situated on the north side of the Loxahatchee River.<\/p>\n

Officials said smoke may be visible in the area during the burn, depending on wind and weather conditions. Drivers traveling along I95 and Florida\u2019s Turnpike nearby could experience reduced visibility at times and are urged to use caution.<\/p>\n

Prescribed burns are intentionally set under controlled conditions to reduce excess vegetation, lower the risk of future wildfires and help maintain healthy native ecosystems. The district noted that the burn will only proceed if weather conditions meet safety requirements.<\/p>\n
