TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Some Leon County neighbors are pushing back against a plan to develop more than a hundred homes. <\/p>\n
The land is off Capital Circle Northwest, north of I-10 near Northwoods Church. <\/p>\n
The church currently owns the property but plans to sell some of it if urban planners approve the developer\u2019s proposal. <\/p>\n
That potential sale has the group Neighbors for Capital Circle Northwest concerned, as they say they moved here to escape the subdivisions elsewhere in Tallahassee.<\/p>\n

Plus, they say the largest wood stork rookery in Leon County is just across the street from the proposed development. <\/p>\n
The project is still in early stages, though a preliminary design shows a neighborhood right behind the church that would see some trees knocked down. <\/p>\n
Gary Zirin with the Neighbors for Capital Circle Northwest said the trees aren\u2019t the only concern. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of trees that are still on the property,\u201d Zirin said. \u201cTraffic impacts, I mean, adding 200 plus cars to the Capital Circle Northwest. I don\u2019t know that there\u2019s any plans by the Department of Transportation to widen Capital Circle anytime soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
A church spokesperson said they believe the preliminary plans are a good thing for the Northwest part of town. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe have seen some of the initial planning and believe this development will be a win for Northwest Tallahassee. For details, the developer is the best place to reach out for those questions,\u201d Northwoods Church said in a statement. <\/p>\n
WCTV reached out to the developer, DR Horton, but has not yet received a response.<\/p>\n
