10 Investigates first told you about the case two years ago. A woman is charged with a scheme to defraud for taking tenants’ money.<\/p>\n

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 Investigators have made an arrest in a case 10 Investigates first told you about two years ago. 10 Investigates started looking into the case after Nikita Jones came to us back in 2024,\u00a0<\/a>saying she was left homeless after getting an eviction notice. She didn\u2019t understand it because the notice wasn\u2019t in her name. It was issued for another woman named \u201cAneese Maxwell\u201d, but investigators say Maxwell also went by the aliases \u201cAngel East” and “Annise Maxwell.”<\/p>\n

They say her real name is Angie Walton.<\/p>\n

A warrant for Walton\u2019s arrest says she falsely represented herself to prospective tenants, saying she could get them into properties she managed. The tenants would be people who normally wouldn\u2019t qualify for a rental unit because of their credit.<\/p>\n

The warrant says she\u2019d charge them a signing fee and then secure a lease. According to investigators, she\u2019d do this by falsely signing paperwork claiming to be \u201cAnnese Maxwell\u201d to the actual property owner, even providing fake bank statements and pay stubs. Upon securing the lease and the keys, she\u2019d then turn it over to the prospective tenant, but never told them they were not on the lease. In some cases, she would tell the tenant the rent was higher than it actually cost.<\/p>\n

There are six different victims on just one warrant out of Pinellas County. Jones is one of them after contacting someone she thought at the time was a property specialist.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m tired now,” Jones said. “I got to do all of this still, I got to move. I got to find my kids someplace else to stay. [She] took me for everything that I got.”<\/p>\n

“I’m strong enough that I\u2019m going to make sure my kids got a place to stay. But it sucks that I have to go through this because I seeked [sic] help from somebody who took advantage of me and my children,” she continued.<\/p>\n

The owner of the home where Jones was evicted told investigators she had advertised the property on Craigslist and was contacted by \u201cAneese Maxwell\u201d to see the home and lease it. The owner said she received rent in full for the first two months before the payments were paid \u201csporadically and partially.\u201d That\u2019s when she initiated the eviction, not knowing that Jones was the one living in the home.<\/p>\n

Angie Walton was arrested in Osceola County. She is being held there and then is expected to come back to Pinellas County, where she faces felony charges for scheming to defraud.
