Jermonti Johnson, also 19, was wounded by gunfire.<\/p>\n<p>Officers around 6:36 p.m. May 2 went to the 1600 Block of Northwest St. Lucie West Boulevard in St. Lucie West after reports of a shooting, police have said.<\/p>\n<p>When investigators arrived, they found Meyers and Johnson with gunshot wounds inside a white Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>Police on May 3 reported Meyers was in grave condition, though Johnson was expected to recover.<\/p>\n<p>Sharlett Key, 18, of Port St. Lucie, and Martravious Blue Jr., 19, of Fort Pierce, were arrested, but the alleged shooter, 18-year-old Norrien Morris Casminski, of Fort Pierce, remains at large.<\/p>\n<p>Key was held May 4 in the St. Lucie County Jail on $75,000 bond, while Blue was held on $1.3 million bond, according to the St. Lucie County sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Leo Niemczyk May 3 said Meyers and Johnson were in some sort of \u201cbusiness transaction \u2026 with the suspects that had been going on for some period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt began in Fort Pierce at a Walmart, as it appears to us, it was over cell phones where our victims were attempting to have the suspects buy cell phones for them, and then they were looking to go to a location where they could get those phones activated,\u201d Niemczyk said.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cvictims were involved in some activities of their own and had interest in having these cell phones not in their name,\u201d Niemczyk said.<\/p>\n<p>Niemczyk said it appears the suspects decided to rob the victims and take their money and cell phones rather than having them activated.<\/p>\n<p>He said Key reportedly drove the other two alleged suspects around Fort Pierce and away from the scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is familiar with the two suspects because they\u2019re friendly with another friend of hers,\u201d Niemczyk said.<\/p>\n<p>Niemczyk noted the risky behavior involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese gentlemen were not involved in productive activity,\u201d he said. \u201cThey were out there trying to obtain these cell phone equipment for less than ethical reasons, and I think that when you live that type of lifestyle and you engage other people who have criminal histories and pasts to do bidding for you, I think you\u2019re taking unnecessary risks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Port St. Lucie Police spokesperson did not immediately return a call the afternoon of May 4.<\/p>\n<p>This article originally appeared on Treasure Coast Newspapers: Man dead after shooting in Florida; alleged gunman still at large<\/p>\n<p>Reporting by Will Greenlee, Treasure Coast Newspapers \/ Treasure Coast Newspapers<\/p>\n<p>USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRelated<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"One of two young men shot May 2 has died as officials continue searching for the alleged gunman,&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":258545,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[286,2624,28,132,105581,171,173,172,215],"class_list":["post-258544","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-port-st-lucie","tag-arrested","tag-dead","tag-florida","tag-police","tag-police-news","tag-port-st-lucie","tag-port-st-lucie-headlines","tag-port-st-lucie-news","tag-shooting"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/258544","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=258544"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/258544\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/258545"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=258544"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=258544"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=258544"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
