NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Orlando went all in before the season started when they traded for wing Desmond Bane in exchange for four unprotected first-round picks, among other assets.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the announcement is at least a little surprising considering the Magic entered their first-round series as massive underdogs and gave the Pistons everything they could handle.<\/p>\n<p>The Magic <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/01\/sports\/magic-miss-23-straight-shots-in-historic-playoff-collapse-vs-pistons\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">arguably should have won this series<\/a> against the Pistons as they were up 3-1 after Game 4 and looked ripe to defeat them in Game 6, up 22 points at halftime at home.<\/p>\n<p>Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero passes the ball against Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham (2) during the second half in Game 7 of a first-round NBA basketball playoffs series, Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Detroit.  AP<\/p>\n<p>They lost Game 6, 93-79, and were <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/03\/sports\/pistons-rout-magic-in-game-7-to-complete-series-rally-avoid-playoff-disaster\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">also blown out in Game 7<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Magic team president Jeff Weltman will lead the charge to find a new coach in Orlando who can get star forward Paolo Banchero, Jalen Suggs and Wendell Carter Jr. to the next level.<\/p>\n<p>When asked whether the team has enough to be successful in the future, Banchero had a tough answer after they were eliminated in the first round for the third straight season.<\/p>\n<p>Jamahl Mosley was fired by the Magic on Monday.
