It happened around 7:45 p.m. Friday, May 1, near a bus stop on W. Hillsborough Avenue and N. Habana Avenue.

As the woman walked past the suspect, he grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground, causing her to lose consciousness, according to police. Detectives say the man then took the woman’s bag and fled on a bicycle.

The woman was transported to a hospital for treatment and has since been released.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall man who was seen wearing a blue hat and a white T-shirt that said “No Christ No Life.”

“This was a cowardly act of violence against an elderly member of our community,” Chief Lee Bercaw said. “Our detectives are using all available resources to identify and apprehend the suspect. We are committed to maintaining the safety of our residents, and this criminal will be held accountable for his actions.”

Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the man to contact the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130 or Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay and refer to report #26-259550.
