The Miami metro area \u2014 tied with New Orleans<\/a> for host of the most Super Bowls<\/a> \u2014 currently can’t hold another.<\/p>\n

According to Stephen Ross<\/a>, who owns both the Miami Dolphins<\/a> and the Hard Rock Stadium, the venue, located in Miami Gardens, no longer meets the NFL requirements to host a Super Bowl. The Miami metro area has previously hosted 11 of the events.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe one thing that suffered is Miami<\/a> hasn\u2019t gotten a Super Bowl here, and we normally have one every five years,\u201d Ross said during an April 30 conference hosted by law firm Bilzin Sumberg at the Four Seasons in Brickell, according to Brian Bandell of the South Florida Business Journal<\/a>. \u201cMiami is not really in line for one. It\u2019s always exciting to have the Super Bowl but that was before we had all the other events. Miami has by far the best weather. It\u2019s in their best interest to have one here but at this point they don\u2019t believe we meet all the requirements and the demands.”<\/p>\n

Why doesn’t the Hard Rock Stadium meet NFL requirements anymore?<\/p>\n

Daniel Sillman, Ross\u2019s son-in-law, was also in attendance. He told Bandell that a Super Bowl requires room for hospitality events around the stadium, and that the construction of facilities to accommodate the Miami Open and Formula 1 events reduced the open space around the Hard Rock.<\/p>\n

Still, Sillman said he believed they could find a solution that still allows for hospitality events around the stadium.<\/p>\n

The last time Miami hosted a Super Bowl was in 2020, and the next three have already been slated for Los Angeles<\/a> in 2027, Atlanta<\/a> in 2028 and Las Vegas<\/a> in 2029.<\/p>\n

If the Super Bowl does come back to the Hard Rock at any point, Ross said he\u2019d like to have updated facilities, according to Bandell.<\/p>\n

“We are looking at how to make improvements,\u201d Ross said. \u201cI want to make the stadium always feel like a new stadium, we are looking at what the next phase will be and making the fan experience that much better.”<\/p>\n

The Hard Rock Stadium, the office of the mayor of Miami-Dade County and the mayor of Miami Gardens did not immediately respond to request for comment from USA TODAY.<\/p>\n
