PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG\/WECP) -The Chipola baseball team is getting set to hit the road Wednesday, bound for Tampa and the four-team, double elimination tournament that will decide the Region, or State champ. Coach Jeff Johnson and his team beating Daytona in two straight this past weekend to earn that berth. Tbat continuing what\u2019s been an odd season for the Indians, 27-1 in the non-conference, 14-10 in league play, and losing four of five down the stretch before beating Daytona in that series. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m proud of our guys of where we\u2019ve come.\u201d coach Johnson told us during a Zoom call Tuesday morning. \u201cWe\u2019ve had some injury issues we had to fight through all conference season. We hadn\u2019t had our main group of guys, or the total group of guys together much. You know we finally got them back together for two games against Pensacola. Then Jeremiah Gary got out with a sprained ankle. We just got him back, he played the first game he\u2019s played in six games on Saturday. So hopefully we\u2019ll have most of our guys back this weekend. And be mentally and physically healthy.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Indians by the way will open up Friday in Tampa against coach Doug Martin and his Raiders of Northwest Florida, who beat Central Florida in their playoff series this past weekend. <\/p>\n
