The Sanibel Captiva Young Professionals (SCYP) will host a spring Swap Shop for free on May 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Association of Realtors (SCIAR) on Sanibel.<\/p>\n
Open to all, it is aimed toward increasing personal sustainability by sharing and trading goods rather than buying them new.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe production of new goods, especially textiles, requires a huge amount of resources and takes a toll on our already stressed planet,\u201d the SCYP shared. \u201cThe goal of this event is to reduce that impact by encouraging shopping secondhand and fostering community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Interested participants can bring goods that are in usable condition at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
Items may include: adult and children clothing; professional wear; special event wear, like prom and formal clothing, and Halloween costumes; accessories, like backpacks, purses and jewelry; books, vinyl records and CDs; art and small home d\u00e9cor; kitchen-ware and small appliances; sporting goods and gear; and other goods.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease refrain from bringing any items too large to transport, electronics or tech that no longer functions, food items or stained\/damaged goods,\u201d the SCYP added. <\/p>\n
Interested shoppers do not have to bring donations to do so.<\/p>\n
RSVPs are requested, and attendees should bring a reusable bag or container to shop from.<\/p>\n
