Gerstein Justice Building in Miami.<\/p>\n<p>                Alie Skowronski<\/p>\n<p>            askowronski@miamiherald.com<\/p>\n<p>Whenever Nathalie Jean misses her son Yahkeim Lollar, she has to visit his grave at Southern Memorial Park in North Miami.<\/p>\n<p>On Dec. 20, 2024, Yahkeim \u2014 affectionately known as \u201cKeimo\u201d and a beloved football player and junior at Miami Northwestern Senior High \u2014 was stabbed to death. In the past year-and-a-half, Yahkeim\u2019s family and friends have had to grapple with their devastating loss while also navigating court proceedings.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article315628409.html\">READ MORE: \u2018Justice was served.\u2019 Killer of beloved Miami Northwestern athlete is sentenced<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jean never imagined that Jahara Malik, Yahkeim\u2019s on-again, off-again girlfriend, would be the reason why Yahkeim would be killed. Malik, 18, was sentenced on Tuesday to 17 years in prison followed by five years of probation for the killing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was 17 years old, and I hope that when she\u2019s sitting in prison, she sits with what she did for 17 years,\u201d Jean said in court.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of Yahkeim\u2019s family members and friends packed the courtroom during the sentencing.
