{"id":262631,"date":"2026-05-07T22:26:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T22:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/262631\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T22:26:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T22:26:09","slug":"locals-hope-reopening-of-north-causeway-bridge-will-boost-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/262631\/","title":{"rendered":"Locals hope reopening of North Causeway Bridge will boost business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FORT PIERCE, Fla. \u2014 The new A1A North Causeway Bridge is opening on May 15. <\/p>\n<p>Neighbors tell WPTV it\u2019s a much-needed replacement for avoiding traffic headaches. <\/p>\n<p>New North Causeway Bridge is opening soon<\/p>\n<p>The project started back in 2023 and cost over $117 million. The new bridge will replace the existing drawbridge, helping to make an easier connection and fewer delays between U.S.1 and A1A.<\/p>\n<p>The bridge features safety improvements, two 12-foot-wide lanes and 85-foot vertical navigational clearances from the water.<\/p>\n<p>While the bridge will be open, FDOT said crews are still finishing shoreline improvements, including: sidewalks, parking areas and observation deck access under the west end of the new bridge. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wptv.com\/news\/region-st-lucie-county\/fort-pierce\/north-causeway-bridge-obsolete-fort-pierce-roadway-to-be-rebuilt-in-estimated-76-million-project\" class=\"ListItem \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"ListItem-category\">Fort Pierce<\/p>\n<p>    Fort Pierce North Causeway Bridge to be rebuilt<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Local restaurants told WPTV\u2019s St. Lucie County reporter Tyler Hatfield they are excited the bridge will allow business to boom even more.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just going to increase everything for us,\u201d said Thomas Loaicono, executive chef at Skipper Cove. \u201cThat increases our livelihood.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The bridge opens on May 15 at 8 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>FDOT said bicycle lanes and the observation deck will remain closed.<\/p>\n<p>Demolition of the drawbridge will begin in late 2027. <\/p>\n<p>            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1776291667_422_.jpeg\" alt=\"REP_CARD_TYLER-HATFIELD_PORT-ST-LUCIE-_FS.jpg\"  width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"\/><\/p>\n<p>WPTV<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FORT PIERCE, Fla. \u2014 The new A1A North Causeway Bridge is opening on May 15.
