TAMPA, FL \u2014 A dog injured in an animal cruelty case in Hillsborough County last month later died after emergency treatment, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Detectives are now working with prosecutors to determine whether additional charges will be filed against a Tampa woman already arrested in the case, the Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office said in a news release on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The HCSO Real Time Crime Center cameras observed Imania Davis, 33, throwing a dog twice, causing the animal to hit the asphalt, on April 30, around 8:20 p.m., the agency said. The video also showed Davis kicking the dog.<\/p>\n
Deputies responded and took the dog to a veterinarian, where he was treated for a broken leg and received emergency medical care.<\/p>\n
Despite ongoing efforts from the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center and its veterinary staff, the dog later died, the agency reported.<\/p>\n
Davis was previously arrested on six charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Detectives are working with the state attorney\u2019s office regarding any additional charges that may apply following the dog\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a deeply upsetting case that has impacted our entire community,\u201d Sheriff Chad Chronister said. \u201cWhat this innocent animal endured was cruel, violent, and unacceptable. I am also grateful to everyone at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center and the veterinary staff who did everything they could to care for this dog and give him a chance to recover.”<\/p>\n
