Art fans can now peek into the future of The Dal\u00ed Museum.<\/p>\n

The St. Petersburg museum unveiled updated renderings Thursday morning of its upcoming 35,000-square-foot expansion \u2014 including a fly-through video that explores how the space will blend with the existing museum footprint.<\/p>\n

The $65 million project, announced in March<\/a>, will include new gallery spaces to combine art and technology, a learning center for K-12 students and adults, event spaces for corporate and cultural events and a \u201cstriking new exterior.\u201d<\/p>\n

The expansion is helmed by the Beck Group, an architectural firm that transformed The Dal\u00ed Museum with a new building in 2011.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe exterior design, what we call Reveal, plays with expectation,\u201d said Trevor Lamphier, design principal at The Beck Group, in the March news release. \u201cIt extends and reinterprets the existing building, using familiar materials in new ways to create moments of discovery. Like Dal\u00ed\u2019s work, the architecture invites a double take, rewarding curiosity and encouraging visitors to slow down and look again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new video rendering takes viewers around and inside the addition, showing new spaces like digital exhibitions and a terrace with a view of St. Pete\u2019s waterfront. Watch it here:<\/p>\n

To learn more about the museum\u2019s history and evolution, visitors can check out a new exhibit that opened on May 2, titled \u201cThe Architecture of Dal\u00ed.\u201d<\/p>\n

On display through mid-April 2027 and included with regular gallery admission, the exhibit features a 3D model, archival photos and a trove of historical documents that trace The Dal\u00ed\u2019s path from a factory in Ohio to the waterfront museum in St. Pete. Over 10 million visitors have basked in the work of surrealist Salvador Dal\u00ed since the museum opened in St. Pete in 1982.<\/p>\n
