NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) \u2014 A man was arrested in Florida by North Haven police for allegedly attempting to withdraw more than $500,000 from somebody\u2019s bank account using false identification last year, according to police.<\/p>\n
Marcos Mokas, 54, of Florida, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit first-degree larceny, two counts of first-degree identity theft, two counts of criminal impersonation and two counts of first-degree forgery.<\/p>\n
Waterford police asking for help identifying 2 CVS larceny suspects <\/a><\/p>\n North Haven detectives began their investigation on June 12, 2025, after a local bank reported an unidentified man attempting to withdraw $515,000 from a resident\u2019s bank account using their personal information the day before.<\/p>\n The resident received a notification of the attempted withdrawal and stopped the transaction before any funds were released.<\/p>\n The same person returned to the bank the next day and presented the false identification in another attempt at a transaction, issuing a second check in excess of $515,000, according to police. The transaction was stopped again by the resident.<\/p>\n Multiple search warrants and a review of surveillance footage and financial records led detectives to Mokas with the help of the Department of Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Agency.<\/p>\n
