{"id":266149,"date":"2026-05-11T01:21:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T01:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/266149\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T01:21:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T01:21:08","slug":"wildfires-burning-along-everglades-in-browad-miami-dade-monroe-counties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/266149\/","title":{"rendered":"Wildfires burning along Everglades in Browad, Miami-Dade, Monroe counties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tSeveral agencies on Sunday responded to fires stretching along the Everglades from Broward County to Florida City in Monroe County, including the closure of the road in and out of the Florida Keys.Firefighters in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, as well as the Florida Forest Service,  responded to wildfires that had burned around 4,600 acres as of 5 p.m. In Broward County alone, it was 2,900 acres and zero percent contained.MDFR was battling a fire near Southwest 344 Street and South Dixie Highway.The second fire is located near North Krome Avenue and Northwest 186th Street, where MDFR is working with multiple agencies, including fire units with the Broward Sheriff&#8217;s Office and FFS, to contain the fire and protect the surrounding areas.Roxanne Gill, who lives with her boyfriend and her 1-year-old, was near where flames were burning at the northwest of the intersection of Okeechobee Road and Krome Avenue in Broward.\u201cWe couldn\u2019t leave; the fire was blocking the dirt road,\u201d she told WPLG. \u201cThere\u2019s no leaving. The only way to leave was to take an airboat.\u201dGill said they have dealt with fires in the past, but never this close.\u201cIt was huge, there was so much smoke, we could hear it crackling, that\u2019s how bad it was. I had to hose down my house. Everyone was hosing down their trailers before the fire department came,\u201d she said. \u201cI was scared. I was getting all my important stuff out of our house, and I was freaking out, asking everyone if I should take the baby, if I should leave, and there\u2019s no way of leaving, I was super scared.\u201dPolice in Pembroke Pines warned residents about smoke heading toward the Lake Holly area, near Pines Boulevard and U.S. 27. Fire rescue crews were staging in the area.Monroe County Sheriff&#8217;s Office said all northbound traffic on U.S. 1 and Card Sound Road was closed due to a brush fire in Florida City.
