{"id":266866,"date":"2026-05-11T17:32:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T17:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/266866\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T17:32:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T17:32:07","slug":"at-miami-dade-sentencing-woman-says-she-forgives-hopes-to-mentor-sons-killer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/266866\/","title":{"rendered":"At Miami-Dade sentencing, woman says she forgives, hopes to mentor son\u2019s killer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">MIAMI \u2014 A man who was 15 when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2022\/05\/10\/15-year-old-arrested-in-connection-with-fatal-shooting-in-northwest-miami-dade\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2022\/05\/10\/15-year-old-arrested-in-connection-with-fatal-shooting-in-northwest-miami-dade\/\">shot and killed<\/a> a 17-year-old boy in northwest Miami-Dade in 2022 learned his fate on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Tavarus Williams was charged as an adult in the May 4, 2022 shooting death of Cairi McNear <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2022\/05\/05\/miami-dade-police-searching-for-answers-after-17-year-old-gunned-down\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in the courtyard of an apartment complex<\/a> at 7126 NW 14th Place in the unincorporated Gladeview area, just north of Miami\u2019s Liberty City neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Williams, now 19, told a judge he was guilty of second-degree murder. Investigators with what was then the Miami-Dade Police Department arrested him days after the shooting and said that Williams shot McNear eight times following an argument.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Williams received a 25-year sentence followed by a decade of probation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Family members of both McNear and Williams were in a Miami courtroom on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Aurianna McNear, Cairi McNear\u2019s mother, offered forgiveness to Williams, saying she hopes to be a mentor to him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI am merciful for you. I want to get to know you. I want to become, at some point when my heart heals, to love you,\u201d she said. \u201cI want you to replace what you took from me.
