{"id":267556,"date":"2026-05-12T04:03:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T04:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/267556\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T04:03:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T04:03:11","slug":"lee-county-changes-water-disinfection-process-wgcu-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/267556\/","title":{"rendered":"Lee County changes water disinfection process | WGCU News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On May 21, Lee County Utilities will change its water disinfection process from a free chlorine residual back to using chloramines as the primary disinfectant.<\/p>\n<p>Residents who use a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact an equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment may be installed.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical fish or aquatic animal owners should contact a local tropical fish store for appropriate pretreatment of water before adding water to tanks.<\/p>\n<p>Customers may notice a temporary change in the taste, odor and color of the water, which is not harmful.<\/p>\n<p>It will take about a week for the entire area to be converted.<\/p>\n<p>Customers with questions can call Lee County Utilities from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at 239-533-8845.<\/p>\n<p>WGCU is your trusted source for news and information in Southwest Florida.
