President Trump urged New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to \u201ccherish\u201d billionaires like Ken Griffin after the Citadel CEO threatened to bolt from a\u00a0Park Avenue skyscraper project\u00a0<\/a>and move to Miami in response to the socialist mayor\u2019s attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you lose people like that, it\u2019s sort of not recoverable,\u201d Trump told WABC radio host Sid Rosenberg.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlways you say something\u2019s recoverable, right? But it\u2019s not recoverable. Then they build something else. They\u2019re going to be there for 30 years. They don\u2019t come back. And you\u2019ve got to do the opposite. You\u2019ve got to cherish them,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou got to bring them to the office. You got to meet them. You have to have dinner with them. You have to convince them not to leave, you\u2019re going to make their life great, you\u2019re going to help them with their building, with their project. You got to do it and I don\u2019t know \u2014 it\u2019s not hard to do, but maybe it is for some people.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut you don\u2019t want to lose people like Ken, that would be a big loss for New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

Griffin warned last week that his hedge fund Citadel would shift more jobs to Miami as a \u201cdirect consequence\u201d of Mamdani\u2019s\u00a0rhetoric targeting wealthy New Yorkers.<\/a><\/p>\n

The hedge fund billionaire said the mayor\u2019s attacks had forced the firm to \u201cdouble down\u201d on Florida rather than expand further in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will add far more jobs in Miami over the next decade as an immediate and direct consequence of the mayor\u2019s poor decision here with respect to his posting of that video,\u201d Griffin told\u00a0CNBC at the Milken Institute Global Conference<\/a>\u00a0in Beverly Hills on May 5.<\/p>\n

The feud erupted after Mamdani filmed a slick\u00a0social media video outside Griffin\u2019s record-setting $238 million penthouse<\/a>\u00a0at 220 Central Park South while touting a proposed \u201cpied-\u00e0-terre\u201d tax on luxury second homes worth more than $5 million.<\/p>\n

Griffin called the stunt \u201ccreepy\u201d and \u201cweird\u201d and later described the video as \u201cfrightening\u201d after he watched it multiple times.<\/p>\n

He warned the mayor\u2019s rhetoric risked inflaming political extremism and cited the 2024 Midtown murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.<\/p>\n

The Citadel founder also suggested Mamdani\u2019s attacks could jeopardize a planned $4.5 billion Park Avenue tower being developed by Citadel alongside Vornado Realty Trust and Rudin Management.<\/p>\n

Vornado chairman Steve Roth also blasted the mayor for the \u201cugly, unnecessary video stunt,\u201d which Roth called \u201cboth irresponsible and dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n
