{"id":268185,"date":"2026-05-12T16:27:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T16:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/268185\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T16:27:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T16:27:08","slug":"miami-cops-sue-ben-affleck-matt-damon-for-defamation-over-movie-the-rip-newsradio-wiod","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/268185\/","title":{"rendered":"Miami Cops Sue Ben Affleck, Matt Damon for Defamation Over Movie &#8220;The Rip&#8221; | NewsRadio WIOD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two South Florida police officers are suing A-list actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon over their &#8220;too-close-to-home&#8221; portrayal of them in the movie, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/videos\/riverview\/relatedvideo?q=the%20rip%20movie&amp;mid=960EC0484AE893D911F1960EC0484AE893D911F1&amp;ajaxhist=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Rip<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Miami-Dade Sheriff\u2019s Office Sgts Jason Smith and Jonathan Santana filed a defamation lawsuit this month in Miami federal court against Affleck and Damon&#8217;s film production company.<\/p>\n<p>They claim the duo used &#8220;too many real-life details&#8221; in the fictionalized script for The Rip, which they claim caused harm to the officers\u2019 personal and professional reputations<\/p>\n<p>Court filing shows they are seeking damages, attorney fees and a public retraction and correction.
