{"id":268736,"date":"2026-05-13T00:32:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T00:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/268736\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T00:32:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T00:32:08","slug":"alligator-alcatraz-operations-may-end-as-early-as-june-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/268736\/","title":{"rendered":"Alligator Alcatraz operations may end as early as June | State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SOUTHWEST FLORIDA, (WINK) \u2014 Alligator Alcatraz may shut down operations as early as June, according to the New York Times.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the Times reported\u00a0that<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/12\/us\/florida-alligator-alcatraz-detention-closure.html?unlocked_article_code=1.h1A.07yv.NizJbqv4X_8s&amp;smid=nytcore-ios-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u00a0vendors<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/12\/us\/florida-alligator-alcatraz-detention-closure.html?unlocked_article_code=1.h1A.07yv.NizJbqv4X_8s&amp;smid=nytcore-ios-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u00a0for the detention center are being told the center will start to move detainees in June<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This comes days after a news conference in Lee County, where WINK News Anchor Claire Galt asked DeSantis whether he had personally heard from President Donald Trump or the Department of Homeland Security about shutting the facility down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have not talked to the President about it, but I&#8217;ve talked to Tom Homan about it,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cHe does not want to relinquish the ability to use those beds, was my understanding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>CBS News says\u00a0the decision to close the facility has been speculated, with Gov.
