Fort Myers Police Department<\/a> on Tuesday identified him as Leroy Irving Jr.<\/p>\nIrving, who is employed by the Lee County School District at Dunbar High School, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service, police said. He was later taken to Lee County Jail.<\/p>\n
Police said its Special Victims Unit began investigating Irving in March after receiving a criminal complaint involving Irving and a student.<\/p>\n
“After several months of investigation, detectives learned that Irving had been communicating with the student through several social media applications and that the conversations were sexual in nature,” police said.<\/p>\n
Irving now faces several felony charges, including the following: <\/p>\n
Authority figure engaging in a romantic relationship with a studentPossession of child pornography Tampering with evidence in a criminal proceeding<\/p>\n
Police have not released additional details about the student involved.<\/p>\n
Authorities urged parents to monitor their children\u2019s social media activity, saying it can help prevent similar situations.<\/p>\n
