{"id":268990,"date":"2026-05-13T04:46:31","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T04:46:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/268990\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T04:46:31","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T04:46:31","slug":"orlando-begins-relocation-of-lake-eola-swans-after-bird-flu-outbreak-kills-nearly-30-birds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/268990\/","title":{"rendered":"Orlando begins relocation of Lake Eola swans after bird flu outbreak kills nearly 30 birds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The new home of Orlando\u2019s Lake Eola swans has been determined.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The City of Orlando has announced the relocation of its Lake Eola swan population to Travis Williams Exotic in Lake Butler.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The decision comes after a recent bird flu outbreak that led to the deaths of nearly 30 birds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The relocation involves nine adult swans, five babies and 19 eggs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Travis Williams Exotic is a for-profit company that sells exotic animals and is licensed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan emphasized the necessity of moving the entire swan family as a unit to ensure their safety and proper care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cYou have to move the entire family as a unit. we are making sure they\u2019re safe, they will go to proper facilities and hopefully we can work with them to get some birds back in the future,\u201d Sheehan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Despite the relocation of the current population, Orlando leaders noted that swans may still be seen in Lake Eola Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This is because some swans migrate to the lake naturally from time to time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The City of Orlando hopes to potentially work with Travis Williams Exotic to reintroduce some birds to Lake Eola in the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wftv.com\/mobile-apps\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Click here;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;Click here&quot;}\" class=\"link \">Click here<\/a> to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
