TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) \u2014 A recently built apartment complex in downtown Tampa will offer workforce housing to the community.<\/p>\n

The Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency announced Tuesday that its $4 million investment will convert 22 units within The Residences at 801 East Whiting into workforce housing.<\/p>\n

New Florida law allows cash transactions to be rounded up or down as pennies fade away <\/a><\/p>\n

The units will be available to households earning between 80% and 140% of the Area Median Income (AMI), or a single-income household making between $64,250 and $112,420.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery affordable unit we can secure means one more teacher, one more service worker, one more nurse, first responder, or other working-class resident can live in the heart of our city where they are closer to their jobs and where their families can enjoy all the amenities downtown Tampa has to offer,\u201d said CRA Board Chairwoman Naya Young.<\/p>\n

Three of the 22 units are traditional one-bedroom apartments that offer private balconies with views of downtown.<\/p>\n

Rental rates for the income-restricted units start at $1,606 per month for households at 80% AMI.<\/p>\n

The 22 units will stay in the \u201caffordability period\u201d for 50 years.<\/p>\n
