{"id":269462,"date":"2026-05-13T13:52:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T13:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/269462\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T13:52:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T13:52:09","slug":"mother-arrested-after-child-shoots-himself-with-her-gun-in-sw-miami-dade-deputies-say-nbc-6-south-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/269462\/","title":{"rendered":"Mother arrested after child shoots himself with her gun in SW Miami-Dade, deputies say \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A mother was arrested on Tuesday after her 6-year-old son <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/possible-shooting-under-investigation-in-sw-miami-dade-neighborhood\/3808278\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/possible-shooting-under-investigation-in-sw-miami-dade-neighborhood\/3808278\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">shot himself with her gun<\/a> in Southwest Miami-Dade, deputies said.<\/p>\n<p>Myeisha Smith, 33, was charged with child neglect causing great bodily harm.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff&#8217;s Office, the incident was reported before 4 p.m. in the 10100 block of West Circle Plaza in West Perrine after Smith heard a gunshot go off inside her home.<\/p>\n<p>An arrest report said Smith called 911 after her on was shot and said she was taking him to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Her son was then airlifted to the HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Aerial footage captured the child being airlifted.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/051226-child-shot-west-perrine-miami-dade-air-rescue.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\"A person possibly injured in a shooting in West Perrine is airlifted at a local hospital on May 12, 2026.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tNBC6NBC6<\/p>\n<p>A person possibly injured in a shooting in West Perrine is airlifted at a local hospital on May 12, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>After he son was in the hospital, Smith, the report said, told deputies that she left her gun unattended in her bedroom and left her son alone with it. <\/p>\n<p>Deputies said her son then grabbed the gun and shot himself in the shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>Smith was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. <\/p>\n<p>Her child remains in stable condition. <\/p>\n<p>Under Florida law, gun owners must secure their guns and keep them out of reach, away from children.
