Authorities have ruled the investigation a murder-suicide. Police have not said who shot whom, but the wife had filed for divorce just weeks before the shooting, and officers had been to the home in the past. A six-year-old returned home Monday to find both his parents shot and killed inside the house. His one-year-old and two-year-old siblings were unharmed. Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WPBF 25 NewsOfficials identified the couple as Jimsley Estime and his wife, Ketsy Alexis, and said the incident appears to be a murder-suicide. According to police, Estime was arrested in January, accused of making written threats to kill Alexis. The case was dismissed because Alexis refused to prosecute. Court records show Alexis filed for divorce two weeks ago. Melanie Afanador, with SafeSpace Florida, a local domestic violence center on the Treasure Coast, explained some of the warning signs of domestic violence. “Domestic violence always gets worse. It may start with intimidation, isolation, verbal abuse, mental abuse, harming things that are loved by the other person, so breaking objects in the home, those controlling behaviors, and then we see that it starts to get worse, and we know that domestic violence gets worse,” Afanador said. She added that fear and children are often reasons victims do not leave abusive situations. “There are risks of experiencing continued violence or the violence changing, where you start to see an increase in stalking, harassing, the use of the children, the loss of financial independence, or the use of the finances that’s now going to impact homelessness, access to basic needs, access to get medical care,” Afanador said. Afanador emphasized the importance of victims knowing support is available. “We are here to support you, to offer you safety, to stand with you in solidarity.
