{"id":270234,"date":"2026-05-14T01:09:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T01:09:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/270234\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T01:09:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T01:09:21","slug":"medical-incident-may-be-cause-of-delta-workers-fatal-crash-at-orlando-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/270234\/","title":{"rendered":"Medical incident may be cause of Delta worker\u2019s fatal crash at Orlando airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">ORLANDO, Fla. \u2014 The Delta Airlines employee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/05\/11\/officials-identify-delta-worker-killed-after-vehicle-crash-at-orlando-airport\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:killed last week;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;killed last week&quot;}\" class=\"link \">killed last week<\/a> at Orlando International Airport may have suffered a \u201cmedical event\u201d that led to his fatal crash, according to a new medical examiner\u2019s report.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Daniel Maldonado, 49, of Auburndale, was killed Thursday while driving a tug, a vehicle used to tow planes, that crashed into a jet bridge, the walkway used by passengers to travel between a terminal and a plane, according to a report recently released by the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The report says Maldonado, who had a history of heart problems, may have suffered an unspecified medical incident that caused him to drive the tug underneath the jet bridge. He became wedged in between the tug and the bridge and died from from multiple blunt-impact injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The crash occurred around 11 p.m. while a Delta flight full of passengers was parked at the jet bridge. The passengers had to exit the plane using its rear door and stairs, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Operations were paused at Delta\u2019s Orlando terminal that night following the collision, with one departing flight being canceled, according to the airline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Maldonado was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police informed the medical examiner\u2019s office Thursday they were trying to obtain surveillance footage showing Maldonado driving the tug as it was heading toward the jet bridge.
