At a funeral service for Yahkeim Lollar, family members gathered to remember his academic achievements and kind heart before he was allegedly stabbed to death in Miami. <\/p>\n
Surveillance video from inside the garage showed the two teens in the garage before the stabbing and the moments after the stabbing as well as police responding to the scene.<\/p>\n
The bodycam footage shows officers speaking with Malik, who appears to have blood on her hands.<\/p>\n
“We was just over here fighting and then\u2026,” she says<\/p>\n
“So you guys were arguing?” an officer asks.<\/p>\n
“Yes, well we wasn’t arguing, we was just like play fighting and stuff and that’s when he was making me mad and that’s when I had the knife right here and he ended up running to it, but I’m not thinking because he already knew I had it, he was trying to get it from me but he ended up running to it,” Malik said. “I can’t go to jail…I need him to wake up.”<\/p>\n
Lollar\u2019s family has been vocal since the beginning and held protests outside the Miami-Dade State Attorney\u2019s Office, demanding accountability. Their calls for justice eventually led prosecutors to file charges against Malik more than a month after the killing.<\/p>\n
A junior at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Lollar was described as being devoted to his family.
