Some Democratic officials in South Florida are preparing to run for Congress in the event that 83-year-old Rep. Frederica Wilson, who has not voted in the House since mid-April, decides not to seek reelection, NOTUS has learned.<\/p>\n
At least two Democrats, state Sen. Shevrin Jones and Miami Dade County Commissioner Oliver Gilbert, are mulling a run if Wilson retires, according to two sources familiar with the matter. The congresswoman\u2019s office did not immediately respond to NOTUS\u2019 questions on whether she is running for reelection but told NBC News<\/a> she plans to return to the House next week.<\/p>\n One of the sources said Jones spoke with a close friend of Wilson\u2019s on Thursday afternoon and asked about Wilson\u2019s plans. A source close to Jones told NOTUS he would run \u201cif the opportunity presents itself.\u201d<\/p>\n The offices of Jones and Gilbert did not immediately respond to NOTUS\u2019 requests for comment.<\/p>\n Wilson filed<\/a> to run for reelection in September 2025.
