Florida teen dies in electric scooter crash on the way to buy Mother\u2019s Day flowers<\/p>\n

A 13-year-old riding an electric scooter died Wednesday night after a crash with a pickup truck in Orlando on Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n

The teen has been identified by troopers as Colton Remsburg. <\/p>\n

Remsburg was heading to a store to buy flowers for his mom to celebrate Mother\u2019s Day when he was hit. <\/p>\n

According to FHP, the boy was crossing the street on his scooter when he was hit by the truck. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s very tragic,\u201d Tyler Embry told sister station WESH while standing on the road Tuesday afternoon before his friend died.<\/p>\n

His family is close to Remsburg’s family.<\/p>\n

“The worst thing was that he didn’t wear a helmet, and he didn’t have any broken bones on him. It’s just that he hit his head so hard on the ground,” Embry said.<\/p>\n

Another friend of the teen\u2019s family provided WESH with a photograph of the crash scene, showing that the impact had split the scooter into two pieces. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s just really sad that it had to happen to him,\u201d Embry said.<\/p>\n

FHP said the driver of the pickup truck is a 35-year-old who was not injured and remained at the scene after the crash. <\/p>\n

Troopers said the pickup driver will likely not be charged or ticketed. <\/p>\n
