{"id":271854,"date":"2026-05-15T05:36:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T05:36:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/271854\/"},"modified":"2026-05-15T05:36:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T05:36:16","slug":"the-miami-hurricanes-are-trying-to-wreck-a-positive-development-that-the-tennessee-vols-thought-was-locked-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/271854\/","title":{"rendered":"The Miami Hurricanes are trying to wreck a positive development that the Tennessee Vols thought was locked down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Miami Hurricanes are currently a thorn in the side of Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"2126\" height=\"1378\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Screenshot-2026-05-14-at-3.16.28-PM.png\" class=\"attachment-1280 size-1280 wp-post-image\" alt=\"Tennessee Vols\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  data-hero=\"atoz-hero\" \/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMatt Pendleton-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Miami Hurricanes are trying to wreck a positive development that some felt like the Tennessee Vols already had locked in. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2027 four-star safety Jarrell Chandler, 6-foot-3\/210 pounds from Knoxville, TN, has been trending to Tennessee ahead of his scheduled commitment on May 18. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chandler is rated in 247Sports\u2019 composite rankings as the No. 24 safety in the nation and the No. 11 player in the state of Tennessee. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The four-star recruit <a href=\"https:\/\/atozsports.com\/nashville\/volunteers\/highly-coveted-4-star-recruit-knoxville-tennessee-vols-new-defensive-coaching-staff\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">mentioned earlier this offseason<\/a> that he\u2019s a fan of the new defensive coaching staff at Tennessee. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe new [defensive] staff on defense is legit, they are the hometown team, and I have good relationships with the staff at Tennessee,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/news\/4-star-safety-jarrell-chandler-locks-in-key-visits-with-decision-approaching\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said Chandler to On3<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Miami has made it a \u201creal battle\u201d for Jarrell Chandler<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to On3\u2019s Chad Simmons, Miami \u201cisn\u2019t backing off\u201d in the battle for Chandler.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTennessee has been in the driver\u2019s seat for much of the process. That said, Miami isn\u2019t backing off,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/news\/flips-leaders-and-late-moves-fresh-intel-on-top-georgia-kentucky-miami-ole-miss-and-texas-am-targets\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote Simmons on Thursday<\/a>. \u201cThe Hurricanes were back in to see Chandler this week and continue to push hard down the stretch.
