TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Organizers gathered outside the Leon County Courthouse as a judge held a hearing inside for an emergency injunction challenging the map approved after the recent special legislative session.<\/p>\n
Organizing Director of Florida For All, Chanae Jackson, said they want to inform the community. \u201cWhat we are here to do is to make sure that our voices are heard, to make sure people understand that what is happening is actually illegal. It is a violation of the Constitution,\u201d the organizing director said.<\/p>\n
Jackson was one of several speakers at the rally, along with Florida Representative Angie Nixon<\/a> but Gov. DeSantis said the map does not violate Florida\u2019s constitution. Some of the same groups involved today plan to head to Alabama this weekend in Selma and Montgomery for more rallies.<\/p>\n Director of Expanding Democracy at Florida Rising, Teresa Guzman that gatherings like these are important.<\/p>\n \u201cOne of the things that we work with in democracy is redistricting because that is how power is built. How are we represented? How is this process? And we vehemently believe that this process is unconstitutional,\u201d Guzman said.<\/p>\n After the rally, some went across the street with Rep. Nixon to the state capitol and held a sit-in protest outside the governor\u2019s office, demanding he speak with them over their concerns.
