{"id":273605,"date":"2026-05-16T17:18:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T17:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/273605\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T17:18:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T17:18:10","slug":"wimauma-father-arrested-for-dui-with-5-year-old-in-backseat-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/273605\/","title":{"rendered":"Wimauma Father Arrested for DUI With 5-Year-Old in Backseat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/patrick-alva-voegtly.jpg\" alt=\"Wimauma Father Arrested for DUI With 5-Year-Old in Backseat\" class=\"pr-3 pb-3\" aria-label=\"Wimauma Father Arrested for DUI With 5-Year-Old in Backseat\"\/><\/p>\n<p>On May 14, 2026, at 7:57 p.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded to the Shell gas station located at 1665 Branch Forbes Road in Plant City regarding a person-down call.<\/p>\n<p>When deputies arrived, they found Patrick Voegtly, 26, passed out in the driver\u2019s seat of a vehicle parked beside a gas pump.<\/p>\n<p>His 5-year-old child was seated in the backseat and could be heard telling deputies, \u201cHe\u2019s just sleeping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Deputies also observed a handgun in plain view inside the vehicle. As deputies detained Voegtly, they discovered a second handgun in his pocket.<\/p>\n<p>During the investigation, deputies noted Voegtly had indications of impairment, including glassy eyes and slurred speech. He refused to perform field sobriety exercises, but provided a breath sample which was more than twice the legal BAC limit of .08.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis reckless decision could have ended in tragedy,\u201d said Sheriff Chad Chronister. \u201cDriving under the influence is dangerous enough, but doing so with a child in the vehicle while armed shows a complete disregard for the safety of others.
