GAINESVILLE, Fla. \u2014 The season is over, but the standard has been set. Florida A&M softball’s historic 2026 campaign came to a close on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Gainesville Regional, falling to Texas State 6-0 in the elimination round. The Rattlers leave Gainesville having competed on college softball’s biggest stage for the 14th time overall and the first time as a member of the SWAC.<\/p>\n
The Rattlers went toe-to-toe with the Sun Belt program through much of the game, battling deep into counts and putting runners on base in the seventh.<\/p>\n
FAMU’s best opportunity came in the final inning. Amya Ramos<\/a> led off the seventh with a single to right field \u2014 one of just two Rattler hits on the afternoon \u2014 and Braxtyn Battle<\/a> worked a walk to put runners on first and second. Michaela Fernandez<\/a> pinch ran for Ramos and moved to third on a Spooner flyout that advanced both runners. With Fernandez 90 feet from tying the game, Douglas came to the plate but fell on a strikeout to end the inning. It was the kind of moment that defined what this team is made of \u2014 fighting until the final pitch, not wilting under the pressure of an elimination game on the road.<\/p>\n Graduate pitcher Samantha Smith<\/a> took the circle for FAMU and gave her team every chance. She went the full seven innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits and finishing with a strikeout in her final collegiate appearance.\u00a0<\/p>\n The future of FAMU softball has never been brighter.<\/p>\n
