(CBS12) \u2014 Florida Congressman Jared Moskowitz says antisemitic threats against Jewish Americans and elected officials have surged in recent years, forcing him to rely on heightened security and speak out about what he calls an increasingly dangerous climate.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with CNN anchor Sara Sidner on Friday, Moskowitz said that occasional threats are now routine and increasingly visible across social media, podcasts, and political discourse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt used to be once in a while you\u2019d see a swastika now it\u2019s every day, all the time,\u201d Moskowitz said, pointing to what he described as a growing normalization of antisemitic rhetoric.<\/p>\n<p>He said criticism of Israel is often quickly crossed into antisemitism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can criticize a government,\u201d he said, \u201cbut you see how quickly they go from Zionism to Jews, Israel to Jews. He added that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/video\/man-faces-charges-in-threat-against-south-florida-congressman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">one individual tied to threats against him<\/a> was prosecuted and sentenced to 25 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>He also said he and other lawmakers pushed House leadership for expanded security resources for members in their home districts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had to go to the Speaker to get a security package together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Moskowitz urged political leaders and movements to reject extremist voices, warning that silence allows antisemitism to spread under the guise of political debate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople may disagree with U.S. policy,\u201d he said, \u201cbut they shouldn\u2019t be allowing antisemites into their movement.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.
