MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. (WSVN) – As gas prices continue to skyrocket, a South Florida rapper gave back to the community to help take the weight off their shoulders. <\/p>\n
Drivers lined up for hours on Sunday in Miami Gardens, in hopes of cashing in on free gas.<\/p>\n
\u201cGive me some of this free gas,\u201d said Eugene Brown. <\/p>\n
The recent higher fuel cost had dozens of South Florida residents filling their tanks on a first-come, first-served basis at the Murphy USA gas station on Northwest Second Avenue for the Spend Dat Gas Giveaway.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have to pay my bills and stuff, you know what I\u2019m saying. I have to make a lot of adjustments to come and get gas,\u201d said Brown.<\/p>\n
The gas prices have put a strain on some households.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really have to budget because my job don\u2019t pay that much, but I\u2019m making do. This is really a blessing, and I really appreciate everyone who put this together,\u201d said Ava Haynes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still have to go to work, I still have to drop and pick up my son from school, so nothing has changed other than the price of gas and more money I have to spend. It takes the strain off the pocket, this can actually go to food or something else I may need,\u201d said Tanya Lopez.<\/p>\n
The giveaway was organized through Caresha Gives.<\/p>\n
\u201cKnowing that Caresha Brownlee was giving back to the community for free gas, knowing that gas is so high, and relieving our pockets,\u201d said an attendee.<\/p>\n
The hip-hop artist known as Yung Miami said hopefully this helps ease the financial pressure some are feeling.<\/p>\n
\u201cGas is so high right now that I need some gas tooo haha no, but I know how important it is for people to need gas and get to work and from work. It\u2019s very hard out here, it\u2019s important to give back, especially me being a mother. I know that times get hard, and I just want to be a blessing to others,\u201d said Yung Miami.<\/p>\n
After the gas giveaway, the focus shifted to honoring local mothers.<\/p>\n
Twenty-five pre-selected moms were surprised with a $200 walmart shopping spree.<\/p>\n
The community event was held in partnership with Nana\u2019s House Behavioral Health and the Miami Gardens councilman. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just out here trying to give back to the community as much as possible,\u201d said Jason Jimeno, partner at Nana\u2019s House Behavioral Health.<\/p>\n
At the end, many left with not only their tanks full but a heart full of gratitude.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s more people than what we were supposed to have, and we\u2019re going to make it our every moment to give back,\u201d said Jimeno.<\/p>\n
