(WITN) &#8211; Authorities say thousands of gallons of sewage spilled into a tributary of the New River in Jacksonville early this morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The city says 35,751 gallons of sewage got into Mill Creek near Dewitt Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It happened around 2:30 a.m. due to a by-pass pump malfunction. The city says it was stopped around 8:00 a.m. by changing a relay on the primary pump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Crews have used chlorine tablets, and pelletized lime and they will continue to sample in multiple locations until the counts clear up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The city says public drinking water was never compromised.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WITN.
