MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Martin County residents are raising their voices, asking city leaders for one thing: silence.<\/p>\n
According to a news release, residents are expected to gather at Tuesday\u2019s Martin County Commission<\/a> meeting to push for federally established train horn quiet zones.<\/p>\n So far, the push for train quiet zones<\/a> has drawn more than 3,000 signatures, with residents, community advocates, and business leaders planning to meet at 8:30 a.m. ahead of the commission meeting to show growing support for relief from train noise in Martin County and along the Treasure Coast and to propose solutions for impacted neighborhoods.<\/p>\n \u201cThis movement continues to grow because residents are tired of constant train-horn noise disrupting their quality of life,\u201d said community advocate Jeffry Aderman. \u201cOther Florida communities are already pursuing solutions, and Martin County deserves the same opportunity.\u201d Quiet zones are federally regulated safety designations that can reduce or eliminate routine train-horn noise at designated crossings while maintaining FRA safety standards.<\/p>\n See also: Alleged drunk driver nearly hits Ironman participants before Florida officers stop him<\/a><\/p>\n In Palm Beach County, a train quiet zone was established in Jupiter<\/a> and Palm Beach Gardens<\/a> in June. In Gardens, a stretch of track just over four miles long \u2014 from Richard Road to Hood Road \u2014 has been designated a quiet zone by the Federal Railroad Administration.<\/p>\n Jupiter\u2019s quiet zones affect six railroad crossings.<\/p>\n
