(Miami, FL) – The two-week warning period is over as the Miami Dade School Bus camera program officially goes back on line.<\/p>\n
The program was taken offline in April of 2025 after drivers complained they got a ticket even though they obeyed the law. <\/p>\n
Now, 900-school buses are equipped with AI-powered stop-arm cameras and an increase in the number of deputies monitoring the footage.<\/p>\n
As of today, drivers who blow past a stopped school bus again face a $225 dollar fine. <\/p>\n
And if you received a ticket before April 2025, you are still required to comply with the law.<\/p>\n
According to the law:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Drivers must stop for stationary school buses when their red lights are flashing, and remain stopped until the buses resume moving, or until the red lights stop flashing.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0On two-lane roads, all traffic in both directions must stop.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0On four-lane roads or multi-lane roads without barriers, including roads with a center turn lane, all traffic in both directions must stop. The exception is where at least a 5-foot raised median exists between the multi-lane roads.<\/p>\n
According to Florida Statute 318.19. (2): The driver of a vehicle upon a divided highway with an unpaved space of at least 5 feet, a raised median, or a physical barrier is not required to stop when traveling in the opposite direction of a school bus which is stopped in accordance with the provisions of this section.<\/p>\n
