(WINK) \u2014 Fort Myers is applying for a $5.04 million Department of Transportation grant to design and construct a roundabout at the intersection of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winknews.com\/search\/?f=html&amp;t=article%2Ccollection%2Cvideo%2Cyoutube&amp;s=start_time&amp;sd=desc&amp;l=25&amp;nsa=eedition&amp;q=palm+beach+boulevard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Palm Beach Boulevard<\/a> (State Road 80) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.winknews.com\/search\/?l=25&amp;s=start_time&amp;sd=desc&amp;f=html&amp;t=article%2Cvideo%2Cyoutube%2Ccollection&amp;app=editorial&amp;nsa=eedition&amp;q=seaboard+street\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Seaboard Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>City Council approved the application on May 18 as part of efforts to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety and manage traffic at the three-way junction, where vehicles transition to lower speeds in the downtown area.<\/p>\n<p>If awarded, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transportation.gov\/grants\/SS4A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program<\/a> would apply to the fiscal 2027 budget.<\/p>\n<p>The city would be responsible for providing a 20% match, or $1,260,000, toward the total estimated project cost of $6.3 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FORT MYERS, Fla.
