These restrictions are designed to help protect Cape Coral\u2019s canals and waterways, which play a vital role in the community\u2019s quality of life and local economy.<\/p>\n<p>When excess nutrients wash into stormwater systems and waterways, it can cause harmful algal blooms that can lead to fish kills and pose risks to pets, wildlife, and people who come into contact with affected water.<\/p>\n<p>REMEMBER: During the remainder of the year (October-May), the percentage of slow-release nitrogen content in any fertilizer used must be at least 50 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Get some critical points of the fertilizer ordinance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capecoral.gov\/departments\/public_works\/public_works_operations\/environmental_resources\/fertilizer_ordinance.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cape Coral\u2019s waterways are directly affected by the way yards are maintained. The city\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capecoral.gov\/departments\/public_works\/public_works_operations\/environmental_resources\/florida_friendly_landscaping_go_native.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Florida Friendly Landscaping and Go Native programs<\/a> encourage simple, environmentally responsible practices that conserve water, reduce chemical runoff, and support local wildlife while helping protect canals, aquifers, and estuaries. Native landscaping also strengthens hurricane resilience by stabilizing soil, reducing erosion, and improving stormwater absorption.
