{"id":277998,"date":"2026-05-20T12:00:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T12:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/277998\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T12:00:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T12:00:20","slug":"raul-castro-indictment-expected-to-be-announced-by-u-s-officials-in-miami-today-sources-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/277998\/","title":{"rendered":"Raul Castro indictment expected to be announced by U.S. officials in Miami today, sources say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Justice Department on Wednesday is expected to unveil the criminal charges against Cuba&#8217;s former leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/us-moving-to-indict-cubas-raul-castro-officials-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ra\u00fal Castro<\/a>, sources familiar with the investigation told CBS News.<\/p>\n<p>Castro, 94, the brother of longtime dictator Fidel Castro, is being indicted on charges related to Cuba&#8217;s deadly 1996 shootdown of planes operated by humanitarian group Brothers to the Rescue, U.S. officials told CBS News earlier this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department had earlier announced an event Wednesday at Miami&#8217;s Freedom Tower during a ceremony to honor victims of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/the-story-of-1996-shootdown-raul-castro-brothers-to-the-rescue-basulto\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brothers to the Rescue shootdown<\/a> 30 years ago.
