{"id":278383,"date":"2026-05-20T18:07:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T18:07:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/278383\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T18:07:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T18:07:14","slug":"red-lobsters-oldest-location-closing-after-56-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/278383\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Lobster&#8217;s oldest location closing after 56 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The \u201cEndless Shrimp\u201d are, in fact, coming to an end at Red Lobster\u2019s oldest continuously-operating location.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cheddar Bay biscuit buffs in Tallahassee, Florida, are bidding farewell to the seafood sanctum\u2019s address on North Monroe Street after 56 years of shell-cracking service, the restaurant chain confirmed to The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The long-lived locale will officially broil its last lobster on Sunday, May 24, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/money\/16380552\/red-lobster-closing-restaurant-tallahassee-florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to media reports<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Red Lobster\u2019s longest continually-operating location is closing after 56 years of serving Tallahassee, Florida seafood lovers.  Google Maps<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis restaurant holds a special place in Red Lobster\u2019s history and has been a meaningful part of the community for decades. We\u2019re grateful to the guests and team members who have supported it over the years,\u201d a spokesperson told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of the normal course of business, Red Lobster continuously evaluates restaurant performance and lease terms and may, from time to time, choose to close or relocate select restaurants,\u201d they added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision reflects individual business circumstances specific to this location.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After casting a wide net in an effort to reel in customers, including hosting a grand \u201cre-opening\u201d f\u00eate featuring new \u201cwild caught\u201d menu items in 2024, the Tallahassee-based eatery, evidently, could not swim out of the red.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite attempts to keep its head above water, the company decided to close the Tallahassee location due to its \u201cindividual business circumstances,\u201d reps told The Post.  AP IMAGES FOR RED LOBSTER<\/p>\n<p>Its closure trails CEO Damola Adamolekun telling the Wall Street Journal in February that Red Lobster was reviewing its real estate footprint and leases to cut costs and potentially close locations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The chain previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/17\/business\/red-lobster-likely-closing-more-restaurants-after-shuttering-130-ceo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shuttered 130 restaurants\u00a0<\/a>in its 2024 Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Adamolekun blamed the chain\u2019s $20 \u201cEndless Shrimp\u201d deal \u2014 offering foodies an unlimited supply of grilled, scampi and fried delights at a fixed price \u2014 for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/06\/business\/red-lobsters-new-ceo-damola-adamolekun-admits-the-endless-shrimp-deal-caused-chaos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">inciting \u201ca lot of chaos\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in restaurants. It, too, cost the company an estimated $20 million in losses in 2023 alone, contributing to the bankruptcy filing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou stress out the kitchen. You stress out the servers. You stress out the host,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/04\/business\/red-lobster-ceo-restaurants\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Adamolekun told CNN.\u00a0<\/a>\u201cPeople can\u2019t get a table. It creates a lot of chaos operationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The waves of mayhem spurred by the promotion notwithstanding, Red Lobster announced\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/01\/business\/red-lobster-to-revive-disastrous-endless-shrimp-deal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the revival of its endless shrimp offering<\/a>\u00a0in April, introducing a saucy, new entr\u00e9e, \u201cMarry Me Shrimp,\u201d alongside fan favorites such as the \u201cShrimp Linguini Alfredo\u201d and the \u201cParrot Isle Coconut Shrimp.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is about putting our guests first and bringing back something they truly love,\u201d Adamolekun <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redlobster.com\/news-press\/press\/2026\/04\/20\/red-lobster-brings-back-endless-shrimp-for-a-limited-time-starting-april-20\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cEndless Shrimp has been a part of Red Lobster\u2019s legacy for 20 years, and our guests have never stopped asking for it. We\u2019re excited to bring it back, for a limited time, in a way that works for our business today and honors what made it special from the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause when our fans talk, we listen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant opted to bring back its \u201cEndless Shrimp\u201d offering in 2026,  despite its causing financial \u201cchaos\u201d in the past.  Red Lobster<\/p>\n<p>Still, unfortunately, the historic Tallahassee location is no longer the talk of the town.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Upon setting sail in October 1970, the nautical-themed restaurant proudly served up \u201cfamily-priced seafood\u201d to Florida\u2019s capital, offering baby shrimp, crabmeat and baked oysters at just $1.85, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tallahassee.com\/story\/entertainment\/restaurants\/2026\/05\/18\/tallahassee-landmark-red-lobster-drops-unexpected-news\/90144977007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to the Tallahassee Democrat<\/a>. Steak and lobster dishes were priced at $3.55 \u2014 a far cry from the double-digits\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/18\/business\/applebees-and-red-lobster-bring-back-bottomless-food-deals-how-to-get-the-most-bang-for-your-buck\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gourmands are paying<\/a>\u00a0today.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And now, online crying, rhapsodizing and eulogizing is on the menu for Tallahassee residents, who fondly remember the hotspot as a neighborhood institution.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry to see them go. I really don\u2019t frequent any of the other seafood restaurants! Red Lobster is a legend,\u201d groaned a Tallahasseean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/1BCArKQKoq\/?mibextid=wwXIfr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">on the city\u2019s official Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so sad to see them go,\u201d another lamented. \u201cI have so many different memories of eating there. From a childhood treat, to my prom night, to my many meals with my husband and children, to my last meal out with my dad. Thanks for the memories. So sorry to see you go after all these years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Floridians flooded Tallahassee\u2019s official Facebook page with sweet memories about the long-standing landmark.   Christopher Sadowski<\/p>\n<p>A frequenter tagged his wife in a comment, writing, \u201cI will forever remember when we first started making money and I\u2019d take you to Red lobster for the Ultimate Feast with them biscuits with clam chowder. We thought we had hit the big time\u2026 Time flies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Ate] there many times with my mom.
