I’m sure the announcement raises the question to folks on the First Coast, What would it take for Jacksonville to play host for another Super Bowl?

The last time the city hosted a Super Bowl was Super Bowl XXXIX, when Tom Brady won his third title, leading the New England Patriots to a 24-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles

The NFL weighs several factors when choosing a site for the Super Bowl.

Because the game is played in February, the league typically favors warmer-weather cities. Cold-weather cities can still host, but chances are the stadium is a dome or has a retractable roof.

The NFL also tends to prefer new or recently renovated stadiums for the best features. League officials evaluate a stadium’s infrastructure, seating capacity, ability to accommodate large-scale productions like the halftime show, among other factors.

Transportation is also factored in. With thousands of fans, media members, league personnel and the teams themselves in town, the NFL looks closely at a city’s highway infrastructure, ability to handle traffic, airport accessibility and hotel availability.

If that wasn’t enough, a city’s entertainment and tourism appeal can also factor into the decision. Officials look at a city’s nightlife, restaurants, attractions and other factors of what the overall fan experience could be. This in turn, goes hand-in-hand with the city’s ability to host events during the week leading up to Sunday, like if there’s enough event space.

All in all, Jacksonville may not be that far off from being selected to host a Super Bowl again. With $1.4 billion in renovations set to transform EverBank Stadium into the “Stadium of the Future,” along with city efforts to revitalize the surrounding area, even the Main Street Bridge can’t slow down the River City’s momentum.

[8
116,118,117
post-278546","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville-headlines","tag-jacksonville-news
["GET
