The view from Chopper 2 on Wednesday showed an excavator near debris from one of area’s stylized structures.The Lost Continent opened with Islands of Adventure in 1999 alongside other areas such as Seuss Landing, Jurassic Park, Toon Lagoon and Marvel Super Hero Island, all of which are still up and running with some changes made here and there over the years. Poseidon’s Fury, which permanently closed in 2023, was a main draw of The Lost Continent. It provided an exciting climate-controlled walkthrough attraction for guests looking to escape the weather, complete with actors, dynamic sets, and special effects including fire, water, and projections. Among the last interactive remnants of The Lost Continent was The Mystic Fountain, controlled remotely by a team member who would converse with guests near the entrance of a stunt show that closed in 2018, “The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad.” It reportedly ceased activity for good after Friday, May 15. The popular Mythos Restaurant, which remains attached to The Lost Continent, is expected to close in 2027. It has not been officially confirmed what’s going to replace The Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure, but the demolition began in parallel with similar renovations underway at Walt Disney World.
